::)my names J. Here's a great question for the board. Will a wastegate increase torque at high throttle and high rpms? Im curious as I had a discussion with a tech at mitsu that swore up and down about high end power loss and fourth gear turbo power loss which can be resolved by wastegating. I was actually thinking... couldn't this be resolved by upgrading the plumbing and upgrading the intercooler. takers? Love to learn somethin here...

Only if the wastegates are leaking will you see any improvement in high throttle and high rpms. If you want an upper end increase you need to either run more boost, or have turbos that will run more boost. The typical problem with 3KGTVR4's is the 9b stock turbos will not hold boost to redline, and Galant VR4's stock 14b's arent that great either, especially up here at altitude where we have no air. The answer most inexperienced people come up with is to simply use a boost controller to try and hold the wastegate completely shut to build more boost. This however only works slightly and lower in the rpms. As soon as the engines demand exceeds the turbos ability to build boost, boost will fall off. Not to mention those tiny turbos will be WAY out of thier efficiency range and heat soak the crap outta the tiny intercoolers. If you want to increase high end power you will need to change turbos in either a GVR4 or VR4.
