Yes the mighty FC! I bought this car specifically to build up. I have had no illusions of driving the car daily, or for that matter much at all beyond track events and forays out into the wild to slay various street beasts. SO lets begine with what I started with:
88FC3s RX7 shell- bought for a whopping 1000 bucks(overpriced!) but ran and drove. The brakes, shifter bushings, etc were all worn as hell but the car did start and drive with no issues. I drove it to work twice and other than that it just sat in my parking space at my apartment.
90 S5 T2 motor, bought from a Mazda technician out on the East coast. Reputedly has only about 6k miles on a rebuild, but we will see. I halfway hope its blown so I can change my mind yet again and build a radical "frankenstein" 6-port turbo motor.Well we will see.
As soon as I got the car I ordered up the following:
Tanabe Upper Strut bar, fnt
Tanabe Lower strut brace, fnt
ERC Coilovers, used - a buddy from Japan found these for me
MAP ECU- for tuning the damned thing
a full widebody kit
A seriosly vented TOP-SECRET style hood
solid motor mounts
rear camber/control links
I searched for what seems like months for a complete S5 Dash harness so I could avoid all the extra wiring associated with the S4 to S5 swap, finally found one and got it actually delivered!
Travis was nice enough to make me a DEAL on a complete 5-lug conversion, now I just need a set of wheels to fit them!. Along with the set I originally purchased this makes two sets of 4-piston calipers I have on hand, which is good because I need them!
SO far all thats been done to the car is the widebody has been trial fit and the motor is almost pulled out. Once the motor is ouw, the dash and dash harness will be pulled, along with the entire interior so the rollcage can be built and the engine compartment and interior can then be painted. Once thats done the exterior will be finished, prepped and painted Toyota Super White, the suspension completely changed over from 5-lug to four lug and the motor dropped in. We will of course be building it an HRD intercooler and exhaust set-up, and who knows what else!
